the population of this unique primate. Over 300.000 acres of forest were
leveled during these last 10 years. It will not just be the problem of losing
an endangered species but also the supply of clean oxygen.
There are many factors which contributes to the deforestation in Borneo.
These factors are widely known worldwide now and it is so easy to explain.
Undoubtly, the government of Indonesia itself has more than 50% responsibility
compared to other components, such as the people and natural causes.
Why is that? As we know today, Indonesia is still a third world country with
typical problems of those countries. The government still lacks of chivalry
which leads to corruption. By the recent findings, if the government were
able to maintain its natural resources (especially oil), the profit itself
is more than enough to give scholarship to every single soul live in
Indonesia, until Bachelor Degree. But the practice of individual/family
corruption on the governmental seat, have made a "sell out" out of themselves.
This leads to various corporations that are sucking the resource out of the
land in Indonesia, are partially responsible for the loss of many aspect, not
just the orangutans.
So what can we do? There is not much a single person could do about it. But
as one big group we will make a big difference. Just sharing this article to
a friend or close relative is more than enough to make a difference. Therefore,
we will be aware about which product abuses the natural resources and natural
wildlife. Thus, nothing is more stronger than a mass boycott.
